With it’s first lesbian and gay community center opening in 1971, these centers have been integral to our local communities social change overtime. Through the work of CenterLink, support is provided to over 200 LGBT centers across the US, Canada, Mexico, China, Cameroon and Australia. 40% of LGBT centers provide direct health care and 10% of these centers exclusively serve LGBT communities of color, youth, seniors or women.

Discrimination Victim Support

GLSEN, nearing its 25th year, was started by a small but passionate group of teachers from Massachusetts looking to provide support to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students being bullied and/or discriminated against. Having grown into a leading national education organization, their work to ensure all students feel safe, valued and are treated with respect is accomplished through many levels of engagement. From Congress and the department of education to working with individual schools - safer environments are being created.

Silvia Rivera Law Project

Transgender Rights

The Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP) named for civil rights pioneer Sylvia Rivera. Sylvia, a crusader throughout the gay rights movement, fought against the exclusion of transgender people from the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act in New York. The project continues to support the work of Sylvia, providing legal services for low-income transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming people. They seek to increase the political voice and visibility of low-income people through the use of training, public education and policy reform.
