Quick Facts

AmpleHarvest.org is a nationwide campaign that works to diminish hunger and malnutrition in America by making it easy for millions of backyard gardeners to find a food pantry where they can donate their excess garden bounty.

Currently, AmpleHarvest.org is the only program in America that is solving hunger and food insecurity issues by moving information instead of moving food. They do this by registering food pantries across the nation so it is easier for home gardeners to find a pantry nearby, and by educating, encouraging and enabling gardeners to donate their excess produce. All of this is done without any cost to the food pantries, or the gardeners. When gardeners and AmpleHarvest.org team up, no food is left behind.

Unlike supermarkets that get deliveries daily from wholesalers and farmers, food pantries receive deliveries much less frequently, making it hard to stock fresh produce. But, thanks to Gary Oppenheimer, founder of AmpleHarvest.org and a backyard gardener himself, food pantries now have a system in place where it is easy for home gardeners to supply the fresh produce that food pantries so desperately need.

Gardeners have the ability to make a significant impact on hunger in America, AmpleHarvest.org has set out to help them make the biggest impact possible. When gardeners donate their excess produce they help eliminate hunger in their community, and eliminate waste, which also helps the environment.

Since their efforts began in May of 2009, the impact of local gardeners and AmpleHarvest.org have not gone unnoticed. From CNN, to the White House people have joined the cause and have registered over 4000 food pantries nationally.

The overall goal of AmpleHarvest.org is to call millions of gardeners together to eliminate malnutrition and hunger in their own community.

Let’s fight hunger in america together.
